Musical Board Games
In this lesson, students will create their own musical board game which will cover topics
including, musical instruments and instrument families, note names and rhythms, as well as
composers and musical artists from a vareity of eras and styles including classical composers,
jazz artists, blues artists, classic rock -- including the Beatles and Elvis, and artists of today.
Procedure:
In groups of 3 or 4 students are to design how their game is to be played and write a set of
directions for it. They should create a rough draft of their board game on a smaller piece of
paper.
Next the students will begin to create the questions that will be incorporated into their game.
Students must have at least 30 questions, covering the 3 major topics of instruments/families,
composers/artists, and notes/rhythms.
Once studets have completed these questions, they will begin to create their game using
poster board, and whatever materials they have available.
Next, each group should test their game by playing it, and make any changes.
Then each group will switch and play the other games in the class and evaluate them.
