1. You need to model on Visual Analysis and analyze the 3-story structure shown below. Building is located at
Culebra, Puerto Rico. The following data is needed to perform your analysis:
a. Building have a Gymnasium at third level, second level is for residential purpose, and first level is
going to be used for teacher’s offices.
Columns dimensions are as follow:
i. A1 and B1 are 24”x14” concrete rectangular columns
ii. A2 column is 13”circular concrete column.
iii. B2 is a 14”x14” square concrete rectangular column
c. Footings need to be proportioned that:
i. On F3 and F2 the bearing capacity need to be bellow qa=4,000 psf.
ii. Footing F1 rest on 40’ length 50 tons 10” diameter concrete piles
1. Minimum spacing between piles should be 3’. Edge minimum distance should be
2. Table below shows the soils properties variation with depth required to model lateral
pressure on piles.
d. Slab A1-B2 thickness should be minimum 6 inches and Slab A2-B3 should has a 7”minimum thickness.
Long term Deflection should be limited to L/240.
e. Beams dimensions are as follow:
f. Beam at axis A equal to beam at axis B (12”x26”) made of concrete. Any other beams should be
12”x18”, made of concrete also.
g. Use f’c = 4000 ksi for all concrete elements, UBC-97 for seismic load and consider a soil type Sd.
