TWENTY REASONS TO GIVE TO COOLEY
President LeDuc’s enclosed annual report shows Cooley’s incomparable commitment to community service
and highlights twenty special reasons why he is so proud of Cooley.
The President could brag about Cooley’s usual successes, but I will instead. Enrollment and applications are
at a record level while the academic quality of incoming classes has increased substantially. Minority, African-
American, Caucasian, and foreign national enrollment numbers all rank highest within the 50 states. We rank
8th lowest in private law school tuition within the 50 states. We increased the percentage of students receiving
scholarships and the average amount of those scholarships. Bar examination passing rates have improved
dramatically. Our faculty leads the nation in educational productivity by teaching more hours to more students
than any law school faculty. We doubled our assets over the last five years and received an investment grade
credit rating. We recently received a $1,000,000 gift, two $500,000 dollar gifts, and a bequest exceeding
$300,000 toward a library expansion project, our courtroom, and a scholarship fund. We expanded our
Auburn Hills and Grand Rapids branch campuses, now educating at those sites 1,200 of our 3,700 total
students, and we enhanced our partnerships with Oakland University and Western Michigan University. And
once again we have received full accreditation approval from the American Bar Association and full member-
ship in the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools from the Higher Learning Commission.
But President LeDuc’s report touches on things about Cooley over and above these successes, things that
demonstrate how Cooley’s commitment to professionalism, service, and community make our students
better lawyers, our faculty better teachers, and our law school one of America’s best.
We have been able to do all this because of the financial support of our alumni and friends. I ask you to help
us continue to improve the quality and reputation of this great
