THE EVENT FILM OF THE YEAR, THE DARK KNIGHT, OPENS IN
The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience to launch on July 18, 2008 with 24 hours showings at
Pacific Science Center’s Boeing IMAX® Theater
SEATTLE– Moviegoers will be lining up around the block to get the hottest ticket in town when The
Dark Knight opens at Pacific Science Center’s Boeing IMAX Theater on July 18, 2008. The follow-up
to the action hit Batman Begins, The Dark Knight reunites director Christopher Nolan and star
Christian Bale, who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in his continuing war on crime.
Concurrently with the film’s debut in commercial 35mm and digital theaters, The Dark Knight: The
IMAX Experience will be released in IMAX theaters beginning July 18, 2008.
The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience will feature six sequences filmed with IMAX® cameras
(including the opening six minutes). This marks the first time ever that a major feature film has been
even partially shot using IMAX cameras, marking a revolutionary integration of the two film formats.
Sequences shot in traditional 35mm will be digitally re-mastered into The IMAX Experience® with
proprietary IMAX DMR® technology. The two formats will be seamlessly integrated and morph
between full IMAX and IMAX DMR. In other words, scenes shot in 35mm will appear in IMAX DMR
(letterbox), while scenes shot with IMAX’s cameras on 15/70mm film will expand vertically to fill our
entire IMAX screen, which is six stories tall, for an all-encompassing IMAX Experience.
Our Boeing IMAX® Theater will allow audiences to experience “The Dark Knight” on Seattle’s largest
screen, surrounded by state-of-the-art digital surround sound. The unique theater geometr
