Columbia County is a county located in the
U.S. state of Georgia. As of 2000, the popula-
tion was 89,288. The 2005 Census Estimate
shows a population of 103,812.[2] The de jure
county seat
is Appling[3]. Appling is an
unincorporated area, making Columbia one
of only three counties in Georgia to have an
unincorporated county seat. The de facto
county seat,
the
location of Columbia
County’s government and courts, is Evans,
also an unincorporated area.[1]
Columbia County is part of the Augusta,
Georgia metropolitan area.

county has a total area of 308 square miles
(797 km²),
of which,
290 square miles
(751 km²) of it is land and 18 square miles
(46 km²) of it (5.77%) is water.
