Juan has recently been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder requiring medication.
STUDENT DESCRIPTION
Juan is a 7 year-old 1st grade student diagnosed as having moderate “cookie-bite” hearing loss with a
corrected hard of hearing 10-15db loss in both ears. Despite his hearing deficiency he is within the
normal range of audible speech utilizing Spanish at home and English with limited ASL in the
classroom. Currently he is receiving speech and language services, and has recently started
counseling services for physically aggressive behavior directed against peers.
He resides with his mother and father in a local multiple family dwelling with one eleven year-old sister
that does not display a designated disability. Recently, his paternal grandmother moved out of the
shared family residence. His family communicates Spanish in the home without the assistance of
ASL, Juan’s secondary communication modality.
