Character Summaries
Juliet- She is the only child to the Pirate Lord Capulet, so she is not a helpless wilting
flower. Even though her father doesn’t want her to take over the ship when he dies, he
still wants her to be able to take care of herself. This has made Juliet a bit cold and
distant. She is blunt, but respectful; she has never felt that she needs to hide what she is
thinking. Even though she has a certain amount of freedom she has never been able to
make a true decision for herself. Wanting Romeo is the first thing she has ever chosen for
herself, so she wrestles with want and need, and asks herself the important question: Does
she just want Romeo or does she need Romeo”; And even though Juliet is a strong and
capable women, she has never really been able to show any weakness and so her true self
never really shines through until meeting Romeo changes all of that.
Romeo- From a young age Romeo has thought the feud was pointless, how two families
could hate each other so much that they are willing to slaughter each other. When Romeo
was 13 he lost his father to the feud, making him less inclined to want to help his side
win. Usually he stays as far away from the fighting as possible, it’s not because he can’t
fight, he can fight very well, he just wants to set an example for the rest of his family.
Romeo doesn’t fall in love easily, with Rosaline he fell in love with her ideals of peace.
When she decided that she wanted to go into the church to further help the spreading of
peace, Romeo was crushed, she was his first love and he thought that she loved him back.
Now he isn’t looking for anyone else to love, he is ready to wait and find someone
however that all changes when he sees Juliet.
Benvolio- He is Romeo’s cousin and one of his best friends. He is naturally a pacifist
and like Romeo truly wants the two factions to all get along; though he loves fighting and
loves to win a fight even more, which causes his passive and violent sides to be in a
constant struggle for dominance. Ben
