Grand Opening Celebration!
March 19 – 22
acon’s new open-air mall, The Shoppes at River
Crossing, is opening their doors, and you are
invited to share the excitement with them at
their grand opening celebration! The Shoppes at River
Crossing will hold a ribbon cutting on March 19, and
celebrations will continue through March 22.
Developing this 750,000 square feet open-air mall, or
lifestyle center, is a joint venture between Jim Wilson &
Associates, LLC (JWA) and General Growth Properties, Inc.
(GGP). JWA and GGP broke ground on The Shoppes at River
Crossing in September 2006, and have worked for less than
two years to construct Bibb County’s first open-air retail and
entertainment center that will serve an estimated 22
counties in Central Georgia.
Kay Yarbrough with JWA recently told us that, "The Shoppes
at River Crossing will be an exciting new retail venue unlike
any other in the Macon market. The outdoor center will
provide a beautiful setting for shopping, dining, and
entertainment with green spaces, lush landscaping,
fountains, and sculptures. Both Jim Wilson & Associates
and General Growth Properties are excited about bringing
this center to Macon and the Central Georgia area."
Kay also shared with us the history behind how the idea for
The Shoppes at River Crossing developed. Jim Wilson Jr.,
who passed away in 2006 a week following the ground-
breaking, was the developer for the Macon Mall, and
managed the mall until the mid-1980s. Jim Wilson, III and
Will Wilson, along with their father, Jim Wilson, Jr., saw a
need for expanded retail venues in Macon, largely due to
the growth of the Central Georgia area. JWA believed that
there was a lack of high-end retailers in the area, and they
also believed they could successfully bring new retailers to
Macon by developing an open-air mall. The open-air mall,
or lifestyle center, format is a growing trend in the United
States, and attracts high-end retailers.
