Albert Oliver MD, CCFP (EM)

Albert studied engineering at the University of British Columbia and then
medicine at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Following
completion of his combined residency in Family Medicine and Emergency
Medicine at the University of British Columbia’s teaching hospitals in Vancou-
ver, he began his career as an emergency physician in 1990. He practiced in
the Vancouver area for many years before moving to the UAE in 2002 and has
worked in most of the country’s top emergency departments since that time.
As Acting Head of Department, he was actively involved in the commissioning
of the new Rashid Hospital Trauma Center Emergency Department in 2006 and
was also Deputy Head of the Dubai Hospital Emergency Department.
Albert has extensive experience in clinical teaching both in Canada and in the
UAE. An avid diver and PADI Divemaster, Albert is also a NOAA Diving Medical
Officer. He works as an Instructor in the Medical Simulation Center of HMSDC.
Dr. James Hwang received his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of
Pittsburgh and completed his emergency medicine residency at the
University of California at San Diego. He then completed his emergency
ultrasound fellowship at Yale University. He is currently a clinical instructor
at Harvard Medical School and an emergency physician at the Brigham and
Women's Hospital in Boston. He has taught bedside ultrasound courses
throughout the United States, as well as internationally (Brazil, China), and
has a particular interest in emergency echocardiography and the use of
ultrasound in international settings.
