Concordia Publishing House at Home in the “Dog House”
A Positive First Semester in the CPH and CUNE Partnership
10.22.2009 – Saint Louis, MO— On August 27, 2009 Concordia University, Nebraska
became the fifth Concordia Publishing House operated campus bookstore. This
partnership came about after CUNE’s past provider decided to get out of the
bookstore business and ended their contract with the university.
Both CPH and CUNE were excited at the prospect of a partnership.
“As corporate entities of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, it made sense for
us to become business partners,” said Rev. Dr. Brian Friedrich, president of
Concordia University, Nebraska. “And, the name brand of CPH gives credibility to our
bookstore among many of our constituents.”
Now, as the Bulldogs’ fall semester reaches mid term, the partnership continues to
thrive between CPH and CUNE. Sales at the bookstore are exceeding expectations
and students seem pleased with lower priced textbooks.
Plus, CPH plans to find even more ways to increase the bookstores appeal; such as
giving art students a chance to decorate the new store.
There will also be several sales and promotions CPH hopes to attract students to
shop in the new bookstore.
In fact, on October 22-24 CPH held a mini warehouse sale on campus, where
CUNE students could purchase discounted items.
Upcoming sales include “Mark-Down Mondays,” a new weekly promotion that offers
sales and discounts on different featured products each week.
And the CPH impact will go beyond just the bookstore; CPH is planning something
called Friday Night Meet-Up, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. on December 4, in the
Cattle Conference Room. This on-campus event will feature speaker Brad Alles, the
nationally known speaker from last years National Youth Gathering. The night will
feature discussion on life’s big questions—especially those that young people
ask—and God’s response to those questions.
