Dealing With Difficult People - A Very
Important Life Lesson for You!
By Dr Judy Esmond
When dealing with difficult people remember what Walt Whitman (1819-1892) said:
Have you learned the lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with
you, and stood aside for you? Have you not learned great lessons from those who
braced themselves against you and disputed passage with you?
WALT WAS RIGHT!
Well, Walt was absolutely right! It is in dealing with the difficult people that you
come across in your life that you have learned some of your greatest lessons. Now
you know at the time, these difficult people can be distressing, disruptive and
downright destructive. But in many ways, just surviving the experience has certainly
made you stronger.
When you deal with the difficult behaviour of others it can teach you, amongst many
things a very powerful lesson...
LEARN FROM THE EXPERIENCE
Dealing with the difficult behaviour of people is never easy or pleasant. But you need
to remember that you can learn an enormous amount from the experience. A negative
can be turned into a positive when you ask yourself:
What can I learn from the experience?
What can I learn about myself?
What can I learn about my interaction with this person?
What can I learn about people in general?
By having a learning mindset, you will always gain and never really lose when
dealing with these difficult people you come across in your life.
