Magriet Malan, is a true pio-
neer of career development for
Public Service Act Personnel
(PSAP) in the Department of
She is an experienced social worker
and registered psychologist. Prior to
her appointment in the DOD in 1999
she established vocational services at
the Department of Manpower and
introduced career development pro-
grammes in the SA Police Service.
Her career achievements include:
O Establishment of the Sub-direc-
torate Career Services at Directorate
Career Development (DCD): PSAP/
Directorate Career Management
(DCM) from scratch.
O Presented a research paper on the
national career development situa-
tion in the Public Service of South
Africa at the 3rd International
Symposium on Public Policy and
Career Development in Sydney,
Australia, in 2006.
O Co-writer of the DODI/JDP on
Career Development of PSAP.
A true pioneer of
Ms Malan is a public speaker of note
and has presented many career related
Learners on the Joint Senior Command
and Staff (JSCS) Programme, the Policy
Writers Course and at Personnel Service
School have greatly benefited from her
knowledge and vast experience.

Development of PSAP, the promulga-
tion of these policy documents is con-
sidered a career highlight as it paves
the way for the institutionalisation of
career development of PSAP in the
Department. This groundbreaking
work will have a positive impact on
many PSAP in years to come.
She is a keen reader and
a proponent of lifelong
learning. She continuously
engages in studies both at
own and State expense. Ms
Malan has completed the
Executive National Senior
Programme (ENSP) and
also attended the Higher
Programme at the Ashridge
Business School in England.
