INDIAN billionaire Lakshmi
Mittal has been linked with
a take-over of Birmingham
City Football Club.
The steel tycoon, who has a
personal fortune of £19.25 bil-
lion, has reportedly made an
inquiry into buying the Pre-
miership side.
If he buys The Blues, Mittal
will follow in the footsteps of
brother Pramod, who bought
CSKA Sofia in December.
The Birmingham City board
are waiting for Mittal, 56, to fol-
low up on his inquiry.
At least 20 per cent of Bir-
mingham’s population is of
Asian origin.
Birmingham City were con-
trolled by the Kumar brothers
between 1990 and 1993.
The head of Mittal Steel, who
lives in London, was linked
with a take-over of Liverpool
Football Club a few years ago.
Mittal is almost twice as rich
as Roman Abramovich, who
has pumped millions into
Chelsea Football Club.
Despite Mittal’s millions, a
so-far anonymous Far East
businessman was expected to
fly to Birmingham this week to
thrash out a rival deal worth
£50 million for the famous club.
