Saves money
ENERGY STAR qualified CFL bulbs can help save you
money. By replacing the five most frequently used lights
in your home with CFL bulbs, you can save up to $60
each year in energy costs. You can start the savings at
participating retailers and lighting showrooms offering
instant discounts and rebates from PSE for up to $3
per ENERGY STAR qualified CFL bulb and up to $15
per ENERGY STAR qualified pin-based CFL fixture.
Visit PSE.com for a current list of participating retailers.
Saves energy
ENERGY STAR qualified CFL bulbs use up to 75 percent
less energy than conventional incandescent bulbs while
providing the same amount of light. For example, a CFL
bulb only needs 13 watts to give off the same light that an
incandescent bulb would need 60 watts to produce.
Lasts longer
An ENERGY STAR qualified CFL bulb can last up to
10,000 hours. One CFL bulb can outlast about 10
incandescent bulbs, which makes CFL bulbs an ideal
choice for hard-to-reach sockets – you can change
bulbs less often!
High quality
Today’s CFL bulbs use electronic ballasts that illuminate
immediately and do not flicker or buzz. CFL bulbs that
have earned the ENERGY STAR have been tested to
meet stringent performance criteria established by the
U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency.

Here are a few terms that will help
you choose an ENERGY STAR qualified
CFL bulb:
Watt: The amount of energy required to
power the bulb. CFL bulbs use fewer
watts and therefore use less energy than
incandescent bulbs to produce the same
amount of light.
Lumens: The amount of light that a bulb
puts out. To produce 9
