Covering
cover bands
In the past week, there’s been a lot of
discussion about local cover bands
and why we don’t write about them,
their shows and their members.
Critics say that ¿Que Pasa? doesn’t
cover local bands, which is far from true.
We’re very interested in local talent. The
problem has been that many of the local
bands are, in fact, cover bands, which we
have not traditionally covered.
In my mind, the answer to why we
don’t cover the cover bands is simple: it’s
the same way that we wouldn’t write a full
article about a local artist who repainted

loved songs definitely play well to a
drinking crowd whose familiarity with
the music is evident in the singing along
and dancing.
Without a doubt, cover bands have
their place and can be very entertaining
— sometimes there is nothing be
