COACHELLA VALLEY ADOPTS NEW CONSTITUTION
Coachella Valley Christian Church in Indio, California, voted to accept a new
constitution and by-laws on Sunday, March 19th. A committee has been working on
proposed changes for over a year. The first draft was not accepted by the congregation,
but the church’s leaders believed the vote was motivated by concerns with a handful of
specific clauses, not the general direction of the documents. Changes were made to
address the concerns raised, and the revised constitution and by-laws were accepted.
The decision changes the church’s governance from the Board/Committee system to a
pattern they describe as “congregationally governed, Elder Board managed and Pastor
led.”
Stephen Sloat is pastor of the church.
