Section 3. Hazards Identification - Summary of Primary Effects and Critical Hazards
Ergonovine is a reproductive system toxin in women (an oxytocic). In pregnant women, overexposure may result in
abortion or fetal harm.
Chronic Health Effects
Environmental Hazards No known significant effects or critical hazards.
Acute exposure to ergonovine can be fatal if inhaled, swallowed, absorbed through skin, or accidentally injected.
Exposure can cause nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, shorteness of breath, coronary
spasm and angina. May cause eye and skin irritation. May have central nervous system effects.
