The data controller for personal information collected by the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) is the
Department of the Environment (DOE). The DVA is an executive agency of the DOE and as such
directly manages all personal information it collects and processes. For the purpose of
administering and conducting a variety of Driver Theory Tests, Pearson VUE act as DVA’s data
processors and are authorised to collect and process personal information on DVA’s behalf.
Personal information will be processed primarily to register candidates, confirm identity and
entitlement, provide tests (including results), statistical management information, including
analysis to assess the effectiveness of traffic patterns, safety initiatives and other transportation
issues to improve both customer service and road safety.
Personal information is also used to provide links for validating and enabling the lawful provision
of driver licenses by the DVA.
Personal information shall be transferred and processed by Pearson VUE in the United States of
America. Compliance with the requirements of the UK Data Protection Act 1998 are established
via the U.S. Department of Commerce ‘Safe Harbor’ framework.
No further disclosures shall be made by the DVA or Pearson VUE other than in accordance with
the law, to comply with legal obligations and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
