The College of Education is committed to the
preparation of teachers, counselors, school and
higher education administrators, and professionals
for a wide variety of educational settings, including
social agencies, business, and government. Because of
the university’s urban setting, students will have
opportunities to work with learners in a wide variety
of educational settings.
Accreditation
The College of Education is accredited by the State
Board for Educator Certification and the National
Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and is
a member of the American Association of Colleges
for Teacher Education.
Departments
Each of the four departments of the college focuses
on a specific aspect of professional education. Three
departments offer undergraduate degrees. The major
entitled Interdisciplinary Studies is housed within the
Curriculum and Instruction Department. One major,
Human Development and Family Studies, and two
certification areas, Special Education and Special
Education Supplemental, are housed in the Educa-
tional Psychology Department. Three majors--Health,
Human Nutrition and Foods, and Kinesiology--are
