Last summer I found out about BYEP after I got in trouble with my family and the
law. It sounded like so much fun. We went white water rafting which looked scary
and hard to do at first, but it was a blast. We also went rock climbing which was
really intense. But, I found that with enough encouragement and determination, I
could make it to the top. Another activity we did was horseback riding. The ride was
very long and steep. It was one of the most extreme experiences I’ve ever had. I feel
much stronger as a person because I made it up and down in one piece. On that trip I
got to see a wolf which has always been a hope of mine.
Not all of our experiences were so “extreme.” We also went for a cool hike up at Grotto
Falls above Hyalite Reservoir. It was a great time to talk and open up to my mentors
and the other girls in my group. It was really nice to have someone to talk to who
would listen to me and care about what I was saying.
I had a great time when I went to the Workshops too. We got to know and trust each
other in Workshops and I learned a lot about myself. Now that I’ve experienced all
these situations with BYEP, I realize that I’m doing better in my life and I can have fun
without getting into trouble. I want to thank everyone for having this program, for
funding it, for being Mentors, and for being Participants.
