National Police Week
In 1962 President John F. Kennedy des-
ignated May 15th as National Peace Officers
Memorial Day, and the entire week as Na-
tional Police Week. It has become customary
for many Police Departments across the na-
tion to hold commemorative services for their
fallen officers during this week. This has
certainly been the case here in Stamford.
The Police Department has for many years
honored its fallen members with a commemo-
rative service. In recent years the scope and
quality of the ceremony has been greatly
enhanced to more accurately reflect the de-
gree of appreciation for those that paid the
ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Last year the Stamford Police Associa-
tion unveiled a concrete wall inscribed with
the names of the four Stamford Police Offi-
cers who have been killed in the line of duty.
This wall was inspired by the National Memo-
rial in Washington D.C. where the names of
more than 17,500 law enforcement officers
who have died in the line of duty are etched
on a marble wall. In addition, the inaugural
Police Week Parade was held with Officers
from nearly 30 Departments in the region
participating.
The Stamford Police Association was
committed to making the ceremony this year
even more spectacular. The event, which
was held on May 7th
