Ashwin opens up on his return to the white-ball cricket
Veteran India off-spinner R Ashwin has been in a prolific form. He, alongside Axar Patel,
dismantled England in the recently-concluded four-match Test series. He claimed 32 wickets
and helped India win 3-1 as well.
Ashwin was the Man of the Series for his stunning efforts not only with the ball but also with
the bat where he scored a century in Chepauk in the second Test. However, his formidable
form left everyone amazed and many thought he could return to the white-ball squad too.
But Ashwin found those questions “laughable”.
“Because when some of these questions are asked about my ODI return, T20I return, white-
ball dreams, and all these things, I find those questions are really laughable because I am
totally at peace and extremely happy with the life I am leading right now,” he said to India
“That given an opportunity anywhere, I would make a game-breaking performance which I
am almost certain about because of the space I find myself in.”What questions people have
to ask, what opinions people have, I am not worried about at all. As of now, every single
game I play out there in the park, I want to leave a smile on my face and everybody else’s,”
Ashwin further added.
Apart from a great series, it was the only DRS that went wrong from his end. And, he
jokingly said that he didn’t get the much-needed support from the wicketkeeper Rishabh
Pant. He also shared that people need to change the lens with which they look at him for
He further explained why the keeper is needed here where he said that for DRS, one needs
to rely on the keeper as the bowler could only see whether the ball struck in line or not. But
with respect to the line from the angle that a bowler is bowling and the bounce, the keeper
needs to help in that case. However, he told that he would do better in his DRS in the future
series as well.
