Carpentry is the largest of all the building trades. The basics of carpentry are layout, cut and
shape, join and check. These skills involve measuring and marking materials, molding wood with
hand or power tools, joining the material with nails and screws and checking the work with levels
or squares.

Plumbing is one of the largest and highest paying careers in the building industry. Plumbers not
only fix leaky pipes, they also install, maintain and repair many types of pipe systems - everything
from installing small residential water, gas and drainage systems to large city sewage systems.
Plumbers must be able to follow blue-prints and building plans and be willing to work around wet
surfaces, damp areas, in trenches or on scaffolds.
