Boy Scout Troop 115
A Boy-Led Troop in Crofton, MD
Troop Overview: Troop 115 is a boy-led troop run by the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL),
his Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders (ASPL), and the Patrol Leaders. These boys function
under the guidance of the adult leaders (Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters). The
youth leaders of the troop and the adults meet on the 2nd Monday of each month at the
Patrol Leader’s Council to plan the troop's activities for the upcoming meetings and troop
Troop Meetings: Troop 115 meets at the Community United Methodist Church on
Riedel Road on Monday nights from 7:30 – 9:00 pm in Fellowship Hall. Meetings are
run by the SPL and are held throughout the year – including during the summer.
Summertime meetings are geared towards first-year scout advancement.
Expeditions / Camping: Troop 115 is an active troop, and generally participates in one
or more camping or hiking activities each month. Expeditions allow scouts opportunities
to work on rank advancement, cooking and outdoor skills, but also to have fun. Meals
are planned and prepared by each patrol. Expeditions for the 2007-2008 Scouting Year
include: a February 2008 ski trip to Timberline in West Virginia, camping and hiking at
several state parks – including Assateague State Park near Ocean City, an overnight on
the Battleship New Jersey, a caving expedition, and a campout at the Patuxent River
Naval Air Station.
Summer Camp: The Troop will be camping at Camp Spencer at the Broad Creek
Memorial Scout Reservation (the Baltimore Area Council’s camp) from June 22 – 28,
2008. For Scouts 14 and older, we will also be attending Claytor Lake Aquatics Camp
from July 20 – 26, 2008. Other recent years have seen the Troop camp at Camp Ottari
at the Blue Ridge Mountain Council Scout Reservation in 2005, and Camp Olmsted at
the Goshen Scout Reservation in 2007. In addition, the Troop sent a crew to the
Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in August 2007.
