Assistant Harbor Master

Assist Harbor Master in operation of Small Boat Harbor and area launch site.
Essential Job Duties:
Under direction of the Harbor Master or Chief of Police, assist in performing the following duties:
Maintain records of all water craft using Small Boat Harbor, Wood River, or Kanakanak Beach
facilities for assessment of fees by City Treasurer.
Identify and obtain Alaska Fish and Game vessel numbers.
Collect and distribute fees, receipts and harbor stickers.
Monitor, daily, the harbor docks, walking the boats, checking for proper identification, equipment
Check on all boat trailers at Kanakanak, Wood River and boat harbor for harbor stickers; write
warnings for non-compliance.
Health and Safety
Monitor conditions of all launch and docking facilities and surrounding to ensure safety.
Interact directly with public regarding matters of fee collection, safety, health and conduct. Verbal
and physical threat is often encountered. Police, emergency medical, and fire department
intervention may be summoned as necessary.
Monitor marine and vehicle traffic within the Small Boat Harbor. Summon Police for assistance as

Place and remove of docks and ramps on a seasonal basis. Remove ice from cement ramps in spring,
