Literacy today is very important for all students. This annotated bibliography really had me consider how teachers can increase their
students’ literacy through books that many students would love reading. Students could relate to books in this annotated bibliography and be
encouraged to make connections to their lives. “Good literature allows children to enter into the vicarious experiences of mystery, excitement,
turmoil, and friendship with other people, places and times. “ (Johnson, 2009) Literature gives students an opportunity to take part in various
realistic and imaginative experiences while also helping them develop their own values and self image. (Johnson, 2009) Many teachers see the
value of literature in children’s lives and try to incorporate it as much as possible in their classrooms. “Literature’s personal and educational
contributions to a child’s development should be enough to ensure that books have a prominent place in every child’s life.” (Johnson, 2009) As a
future teacher I found this annotated bibliography extremely valuable. To me, children’s literature is an essential part of school and I feel that
the books in this bibliography would be great tools to use in the classroom.
