ANNOUNCE 2006 ’40 UNDER 40’ WINNERS
Eighth annual celebration to be held November 10 at Piatt Place
PITTSBURGH – PITTSBURGH magazine and Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project (PUMP)
have announced the 2006 “40 Under 40” honorees.
“40 Under 40” recognizes 40 talented individuals under the age of 40 who are making a
positive impact on the region’s development.
Developed in 1999, “40 Under 40” helps highlight Pittsburgh and southwestern
Pennsylvania as a place where young people can make a difference. Now in its eighth
year, the awards are more popular than ever.
Chosen from a nomination pool of more than 200 candidates, this year’s honorees were
chosen by an independent panel of 12 judges, comprised of former winners, business
professionals and civic leaders. Winners were chosen based on their passion,
commitment, visibility, diversity, and overall impact on the region.
“This was a record-breaking year for nominations for 40 Under 40,” said Betsy Benson,
editor-in-chief of PITTSBURGH magazine. “We believe the energy level among our
region’s young leaders is at an all-time high and that energy will fuel our most successful

The 40 winners will be guests of honor at a celebration on Friday, November 10 from
6:00 to 9:30 p.m. at Piatt Place in downtown Pittsburgh and will be featured in the
November issue of PITTSBURGH magazine. Emcee for the event will be Chris Heinz.
