This classification supervises employees and operations in a designated area.
Responsible for employee training, auditing, product or service quality control,
establishing productivity standards, performance issues, staffing, payroll and other
matters associated with the productivity and operations of assigned area. Employee
supervises the conduct of, but does not perform, the same work as subordinate
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages personnel within a large area of responsibility. Typically is responsible for five
or more regular employees. Promotes positive, constructive working relationships
among personnel in area of responsibility and with all
internal and external
constituencies. Establishes and monitors unit’s performance/productivity standards and
assures that unit is producing at the level expected.
Interviews, hires and trains subordinate personnel. Promotes, discharges and
disciplines personnel as appropriate. Encourages professional development.
Responsible for the daily work flow of the department. Responsible for work
assignments, quality control of output, establishing productivity standards, general office
or unit management and customer service. Insures that the department runs efficiently.
Creates new ways to improve the department’s productivity.
Assists in the development of the annual budgets within responsibility area. Reviews
budget with the director/supervisor. Monitors compliance with budget on a regular basis
to forecast future problems. Assists in development of strategies to address budgetary
Maintains current procedure manuals, reviews and revises manuals. Makes sure that
the department/work unit complies with all standards.
