PHILADELPHIA--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Before he was investing in early-stage companies David King
was running them. King will share his experiences as a serial entrepreneur turned venture capitalist with a Smart Talk:
Adventures in Entrepreneurialism presentation, Wednesday, September 22 at the University City Science Center’s
offices at 3711 Market Street in Philadelphia.
King was one of the founders of BioRexis Pharmaceuticals, Corp., which started at the Science Center’s Port
Business Incubator in 2002. Before being acquired by Pfizer in 2007, BioRexis raised $38 million from several
venture funds. Now a venture partner with Quaker BioVentures, King is on the other side of the table, working with
one of the funds whose first investment was BioRexis. King will tell the BioRexis story and share some insights on the
current state of venture funding in today’s economy.
“As someone who has worked both sides of deals, David has a unique perspective on entrepreneurship and
funding,” says Science Center President & CEO Stephen S. Tang, Ph.D. “David also has a unique perspective on
the Science Center as a successful graduate and a member of our Board of Directors.”
Sponsored by Deloitte and the University City Keystone Innovation Zone, Smart Talk is a quarterly program at the
Science Center which gives startup and growing companies a look at best practices and business strategies from
industry leaders in the region. King’s remarks will be followed by a panel discussion later this year on “Perfecting
your Pitch.”
The Smart Talk program will take place 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. at the Science Center’s offices at 3711 Market Street,
Suite 800. The program is free. Space is limited and advance registration is required. Online registration is available
