Community Development Director
The Associate Planner performs professional work in a broad range of current and comprehensive planning
functions under the direction of the Community Development Director. Independent action and initiative
are necessary to carry out the duties of this position. Responsibilities include the timely and efficient
processing of development applications, the preparation of studies and reports and the preparation of new
and revised development codes.
Education and Experience: (A) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, with a
degree in urban planning, regional planning, architecture, or a closely related field; AND (B) A minimum
of two years previous experience in land use planning, urban planning and design, regional planning,
architecture, or a closely related field; OR (C) any equivalent combination of education and/or experience
with an advanced degree in one of the above-noted areas substituting for one of the required years of
experience; OR (D) a minimum of five years previous experience in land use planning, urban planning and
design, regional planning, architecture, or a closely related field.
Requires possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Washington State driver’s license. Proper
documentation to fulfill the requirements of the Immigration and Nationality Act within three (3) days of
employment is a condition of employment with the City of Kenmore.
1. Respond to citizen inquiries regarding the Comprehensive Plan, Zoning, Subdivision and Land Use
Codes at the counter, over the phone, in writing, and at informal meetings.
2. Processes development applications to assure compliance with applicable development regulations,
zoning, subdivision, land use and environmental policies. Field visits and studies may be required.
