TYSONS CORNER, Va.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Cardinal Bank (NASDAQ:CFNL) is pleased to
announce that Jim Larranaga has been named Honorary Chair for its 2010 Annual Charity Classic, benefiting Inova
Kellar Center and the Cardinal Bank Community Fund. The date for the event is set for Monday, May 17, at the
Country Club of Fairfax. Now in its eighth season, the Cardinal Classic has become one of the most successful
fundraising events in the Northern Virginia region.
“The Cardinal Classic event is unique among high-profile fundraisers, and I am honored to join the Cardinal
Bank team for their eighth annual tournament,” said Jim Larranaga, George Mason University Patriots Men’s
Basketball Head Coach. “As a coach, we are always talking about the team concept and being champions on
the court. The Cardinal Classic is about teaming with community champions off the court - friends, business
leaders, corporate partners and volunteers - to help make a real difference to local charities and the families
they serve,” Larranaga continued.
Larranaga has been developing winning teams on the basketball court since graduating from Providence College. He
was selected in the 1971 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons, although he never sought an NBA career, opting instead
to go into coaching. Larranaga arrived at Mason in 1997, and became a media favorite during the Patriots' run to the
2006 NCAA Final Four.
“We have created a special event that gets better every year,” said Cardinal Bank Regional President F. Kevin
Reynolds. “Coach Larranaga is well-respected throughout the community, and brings a unique mix of
energy, leadership and competitive success to the Cardinal Classic. We are grateful for his willingness to
serve as honorary chair of our 2010 event.”
Since Cardinal Bank’s first event in 2002, the Cardinal Classic has raised more than $1,775,000, fa
