TOWN DEPUTY CLERK
The employee shall be responsible to the Town Clerk-Treasurer. Knowledge of
office equipment and practice, procedures, verbal ability and clerical aptitude
necessary. Ability to keep accurate and legible records ability to type accurately,
use calculator, duplicating machines, computer and maintain a courteous,
cooperative relationship with the public and co-workers. Ability to remain flexible.
Scope of Responsibility:
The employee will be working under the Town Clerk-Treasurer. Specific jobs and
regular recurring duties are carried out with relative independence depending upon
familiarity of the job. Supervision is available from the Town Clerk-Treasurer to
resolve initial problems or to explain new material and precedent matters.
Responsible for reception duties, answering and directing
phone calls, taking messages; greeting the public, answering or
Performs secretarial duties of some variety.
Issues dog tags and other licenses and permits. Accepts utility
service money, prepares copies for the public and accepts other
municipal fees when necessary.
Reconciles and does daily banking.
Responsible for regular and delinquent utility billing, utility
file maintenance and billing changes, shutoff/turn on, and
Account Payable responsibilities include coding and data entry
of invoices into computerized accounting software.
Preparation of computer-generated warrants and
Purchases and maintains supplies.
Maintains backup information on publications, mailings and

Ability to take notes, prepare final documents from notes,
