Focus on: We should help others in need, just as Jesus did.
Prop ideas: Doll or puppet that can bend.
Come dressed as a hunched back crippled woman.
Tell from the perspective of the cripple woman. Come in bent over. Place a
pillow under your shirt or cape for added effect. Exaggerate the inability to look
straight ahead by talking down to the floor.
I have a wonderful story to tell you. It is hard to believe, but you must,
for it is true. I had been bent over like this for 18 long years. It is hard
to do your chores when your back is always bent over. You can’t look
people in the eye. I never could get a good look at anything, except the
ground. As usual, I went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day. I
would go to learn and worship. Sort of like how you come to church
On this particular day, there was a man named Jesus teaching
everyone. Imagine my surprise when he called me over to him. I
didn’t think anyone ever paid any attention to me. Most folks ignored
the cripples like myself. I walked forward to him and then he said,
“You are set free from your handicap.” He placed his hands on me
and immediately I could stand straight! [Jump up and stand straight. Let
pillow fall down.] I was so very happy to be standing straight after 18
years of being bent over. I just started praising God for being set free!
When finished with activities, return
all necessary items to bag and place
in the hallway for pickup.
