God Calls Abram to Move
Abraham Series: Lesson #1
Lesson focus: Abram obeyed God.
Bible verse: Obey the LORD your God. (Deut. 27:10)
Bible story for children:
Talk to the children about moving to a new home or city. Talk about the kind of
houses we have today and the kind of homes in Abram’s time. Ask or tell them
how people in that day would have traveled (Walk, camel, horse).
Prop ideas: Bring a small overnight bag packed with things you would want to take with
you. (Be sure to include a Bible)
Abram loved God and worshipped Him. He lived in a city called Ur and
later an area called Haran. These places were filled with many people who
did not worship God. They worshiped false gods and idols, or statues. This
is evil in God’s eyes. God wanted Abram to get away from the bad
So God told Abram to leave the city and go to a place He would show him.
Abram had probably been living in a nice house (but not like ours today) in
the city. When he moved, like God told him to, he and his family lived in
tents, not houses! He left his hometown to go somewhere he did not know
anyone. And he did not know where he was going! But, Abram obeyed God
PACK UP AND MOVE
Homeliving items around room (Blankets, dishes, dressup clothes)
Help the children pretend to move like Abram did. Fill shopping sacks
with dishes, blankets, pretend food, whatever they want.
Have everyone line up in a caravan and carry his sack to the new
destination. (Walk in the hall, to the aquarium or water fountain. Or just
walk around in a circle).
Have the children unpack and put everything away. (Just like when we
move!) You can have them lie on the floor, turn out the lights, then start
Talk about: Abram had to pack and unpack many times on his trip. He and his wife
and nephew had to walk or ride camels or donkeys to move.
What kind of things do we need to move? (Food, shelter, clothing)
Even though Abram did not know where he was goi
