Venture Out!“Portrait of Mia”
Our cover painting comes to us compliments of artist Sandy Garnett. Sandy was born at Fort Belvoir, Virginia in 1970 and raised
in London and Connecticut. The 1988 DHS graduate is a self-taught artist and has been a professional painter and sculptor since
graduation from St. Lawrence University in 1992.
In the summer of 2005 Garnett showed with Rebecca Hossack Galleries in London and was represented in Art London at Burton’s
Court. He has had solo exhibitions at Palet Gallery in New York City, the Discovery Museum in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the Rosenthal
Gallery at the Rich Forum and Sackler Galleries in Stamford, Connecticut. He has participated in numerous regional group shows in the
The art of Mr. Garnett has been placed in museum, public, corporate, and private collections, including the GM Museum, Pepsico,
Chevrolet, Corcoran Jennison, St. Lawrence University, and the Town of Stamford, CT. In 2001 The New York Times declared his Fingerprint Project ‘Cutting
Edge Art’. His work has been displayed and reviewed by The New York Times, The New York Art World, Gallery Guide, The Hartford Courant, Interior Design,
Greenwich Magazine, The Stamford Advocate, Connecticut Cottages and Gardens. Sandy has an upcoming solo exhibit at the White Plains Museum in

Bob Dylan’s words were once the clarion call of the 60s generation. They resonate in today’s difficult economic
climate. All of us are experiencing hard times. While we parents are still very much concerned with the summer
educational, artistic, social, and physical needs of our children, we’re all doing it with much more limited financial
resources than in previous years.
