Insurance was the first company in Florida to offer this water damage cap. Many homeowner
insurance providers then adopted this dreaded cap. As a result, you must opt into Citizens
Insurance's (MRP) program to avoid their $10,000 Citizens Insurance limit. This indicates that if
you have Citizens Insurance, your damage will be handled by Citizens Insurance employees. If
you disagree with the scope or value of your damage, you may be subject to mediation or
appraisal, and you may not have a representative present because many public adjusters do

Many homeowner insurance providers then adopted this dreaded cap.  If you have Citizens Insurance, you have two choices when you file a claim for water damage due to plumbing failure.  (This cap does not apply to weather-related losses): Option 1.  Opt out of the managed repair program (MRP) and your claim is limited to $10k, even if you have $100k in real damages.  If you opt out, you agree to accept a check for only up to $10k for your claim, and you agree to fix the damage to your house by hiring your own workers or even doing the work yourself.  Most of the time this will leave you short.Option 2:  You opt INTO Citizens Insurance's managed repair program (MRP) program to avoid their $10,000 Citizens Insurance limit. This means that your damage will be handled by contractors that Citizens Insurance chooses.
