3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
May cause eye, skin and respiratory irritation. High concentrations may cause central nervous system
(CNS) depression. Aspiration hazard if swallowed. Deliberately concentrating and inhaling the vapor
may be harmful or fatal. Excessive inhalation causes headache, dizziness, nausea, and
incoordination. Long term exposure to high concentrations of vapor may cause lung, liver or kidney
damage. Reports have associated repeated and prolonged overexposure to solvents with permanent
brain and nervous system damage (sometimes referred to as "solvent" or "painter's syndrome").
Symptoms include fatigue, concentration difficulties, anxiety, depression, rapid mood swings, and
short-term memory loss. Prolonged overexposure to the solvents lists may cause adverse effects to
the urinary and reproductive systems. Tetrachloroethylene, listed by NTP and IARC as an animal
carcinogen and by OSHA as a potential human carcinogen, produced liver tumors in mice. Human
epidemiological evidence is conflicting and inconclusive.
Primary Routes of Entry:
Eye and skin contact, ingestion, inhalation.
Signs and Symptoms of Exposure: Excessive overexposure may cause giddiness, dizziness, headache, nausea and in extreme cases,
unconsciousness and respirato
