1.
Minutes from June 24th meeting were distributed for comment and corrections
2.
LCME Accreditation Review Results – Copies of the LCME Letter of Accreditation and report were
distributed, and the following points were highlighted:
• SOM has received full eight year accreditation
• The report is similar to the draft submitted to us by the visiting team
• LCME did not concur with the visiting team that the area of curriculum reform should be listed as an area
in transition, presumably because there is no LCME standard that mandates curriculum reform.
• LCME will schedule a consultation and a repeat visit.
Dr. McCartney has posted Dr. Golden’s letter regarding our status to various groups through listservs and the
students’ general forum. Questions about further distribution of these materials were tabled until Dr.
McCartney’s return. In Dr. McCartney’s absence, Dr. Tresolini will present the LCME summary to the
Dean’s Advisory Committee, emphasizing changes already implemented.
3.
Academy of Medical Educators – Articles from Academic Medicine describing academies of medical
educators programs were distributed, which complement the information that Dr. Aleman posted to
the CMPC [http://medschool.ucsf.edu/academy/]. Articles include Rediscovering the Medical
School (Watson), UCSF Academy of Medical Educators (Cooke, et al), and The Academy at
Harvard Medical School: Nurturing Teaching and Stimulating Innovation (Thibault et al). The
program at UCSF probably most closely approximates the model that we are considering for the
SOM.
