Merrick & Company provided comprehensive planning,
architecture, and engineering services for design of the
Child Development Center (CDC) at Buckley Air Force
Base, CO. The facility was designed in accordance with
UFC 4-740-14, United Facilities Criteria Design, Child
Development Centers, 1 August 2002. The new CDC
will provide much needed space for the children of the
additional active duty Air Force personnel at Buckley
AFB.
There are three exterior playgrounds directly accessible
from the child care modules for pre-school, pre-toddler,
and toddler. A controlled access area was provided
adjacent to the building to accommodate deliveries.
A screened area was provided for exterior mechanical
and electrical equipment.
The one-story building is configured in an L-shape with
child care modules on each wing with administration/
support functions grouped in the center. The facility
was designed to be compatible with the surrounding
area.
