“Inferno Tour with Dante- 2000”
All human actions and consequences go hand in hand. Dante’s concept of
contrapasso still very much remains the same and it’s not hard to classify human
actions in the same circles of sin as mentioned by him in Dante’s Inferno. So let
us start our virtual tour guided by Dante himself classifying today’s sinners in the
circles of sin.
Our journey starts at the “Gate of Hell”. It’s marginal reason for souls that are
neither good enough for heaven nor bad enough for hell.
Circle 1 – Limbo – The first circle off course depicts about a region on the edge
of hell that include virtuous non-Christian adults & un-baptized infants. One
striking example belonging to this circle of hell is probably Galileo Galilei, an
Italian physicist who vociferously challenged god and tried to explain unnatural

Circle 2 – Lust – The second circle of hell punishes those overcome by lust,
which cater to excessive sexual desires. They are the first ones to be truly
punished in hell. Bill Clinton is a glaring example of committing this lustful sin. For
in-spite of being at the highest stature and a perfectly happy family life, just in the
moment of lust he had an affair with Monika Lewinsky.
Circle 3 – Gluttony – Cerberus himself guards the gluttons who are left to lie in a
vile slush made by freezing rain, black snow and hail. Dante identifies
gormandizing leading to third circle of hell. World Wrestling Federation (WWF)
wrestler Yokozuna of 291 KGs is a clear example of gluttony. At one point in time
he was claimed to be the heaviest person on earth.
Circle 4 – Avarice & Prodigality – Those who are extremely greedy about
material wealth or are spendthrift with money are punished in this circle. These
are two distinct sins leading to fourth circle of hell. Guarded by Plutus, these
sinners are required to push back great rocks towards their side. It is an
antithetical punishment wherein the
