The Plano ISD Board of Trustees, at its September 5 business meeting,
adopted new initiatives for 2006-07 to support the district’s two overriding goals.
Following is a partial listing of the initiatives. Details may be viewed on the

Goal: Ensure Continued Improvement in Student Learning
This goal emphasizes closing the achievement gap and ensuring learning
for all students through high standards, integrated technology and the
district-wide coherent curriculum.
Trustees adopted 17 new initiatives for 2006-07 to support this goal, plus nine
continued initiatives and 10 goals from the District Based Improvement Council.
Highlights of a few of these many new initiatives include:
3Increase diverse populations in each major employee group.
3Provide teachers with increased planning and professional development.
3Reduce student/teacher ratios at the secondary level.
3Implement teacher incentive pay as mandated by the State of Texas.
3Implement the dual-credit program on all three senior high school campuses.
3Develop a model for an employee child care program.
3Study “key schools” data and expand key schools in the district.
3Study “STAR” schools data to ensure effectiveness of resources/initiatives.
3Develop a model for succession planning for leadership positions.
3Develop internal principals’ academy with focus on instructional leadership.
