Orthodontists: Their Duties And Responsibilities
We all are very well aware of the peculiar beings known as “Dentists”. These are the people who are mainly responsible
for removing cavities from our teeth. It is always said that one should pay a visit to a dentist at least twice a year to
ensure a better and bright smile. But recently I have been made aware of the dentists who are even more specialized in
correcting and prettifying your smile. They are known as orthodontists, and their job includes improving their patient's
smile by correcting teeth alignment and guiding proper facial development.
Duties and responsibilities of an Orthodontist:
Orthodontics is a specialty within the dental profession. Their work involves straightening teeth and correcting bites.
Basically, they help to correct malformations of the mouth and misaligned jaws. Orthodontists are responsible for
locating problems with the positioning of patients’ teeth and the development of their overall denture. Depending on
the situation of your teeth and jaws, they can advise you to use dental appliances to correct the problems and provide
better function, appearance, and facial development. The dental appliances may include braces, retainers and space
maintainers. They are also responsible for fixing these appliances, supervising orthodontic technicians and assistants in
performing procedures. It’s their responsibility to plan custom treatments that are tailored to treat each individual
patient depending on his/her specific oral anomalies and dental records.
After the treatment, it is an orthodontist’s duty to periodically examine the patient, perform maintenance work and
modify the treatment plan as required. Maintenance may include tightening braces or headgear, changing wires and
making repairs to any hardware
