EVALUATION OF ENVIROSEAL LIQUID ASPHALT SEALER
Recently, I have had the opportunity to use Enviroseal’s Liquid Asphalt sealer as a soil
stabilizer during excavation and remediation of a project involving low-level radioactive
material and heavy metals.
Product Application
The project had need to provide covering for excavated materials awaiting disposition on an
11 acre site located within a urban area. The client had expressed a concern regarding
windblown contaminants reaching site boundaries. Previous engineering controls had
proved ineffective at meeting the client expectations. Enviroseal’s Liquid Asphalt was -
diluted 30:1 in water and applied to the surface of stockpiles. An evaluation of contaminant
levels in air indicated a reduction in contaminant levels.
Product Evaluation
At a 20:1 dilution, the product remained effective for over 90 days, far exceeding the
expectations. This dilution rate is very economical.
Product was easily diluted on site with water and applied using gasoline-powered pumps
with a minimum of hardware requirements. All components are available from local
hardware stores.
Minimal cleanup and flushing is required to prevent damage to the application system.
For longer term soil cover applications, a stronger mixture is recommended. Use without
dilution is not recommended as a soil cover.
I have recommended the use of this product for all IT Group FUSRAP and Superfund
projects needing soil cover or berm cover.
