Minutes from April
#:1: Approval of Minutes from April 15, 2009. The minutes of April 15, 2009 was approved as submitted. #:1:
#:2: The committee members received the description of the Emerald City Project, a "turnkey model city"
that combines sustainable infrastructure into City planning, partnering with inner city and at risk populations for
entry into the trades.
#:3: Cal Fed Workforce Econ Dev Conference www.calaborfed.org or www.wed.works.org
• Makini Hassan shared highlights from the conference recently held in San Jose (see website links
above). Makini discussed the WIB reauthorization with a strong expectation on infrastructure projects,
funding sector initiatives to businesses and industry (not small geographic considerations, but
regional) which will create jobs and demand for skilled workers. Organized labor partnering with
WIB’s. Nanda Schorske added that WIB’s do not advocate for or against “union “jobs, but rather for
“living wage” jobs. Bill Scott concurred. Makini also discussed the Skills to Compete Campaign, which
is two years of post-secondary education that is career technical in focus.
College of Marin
