What is the colon?
The colon is the last six feet of your large intestine or “bowel”.
What is colon cancer?
It is cancer of the intestine or rectum (the end of the intestine).
How common is colon cancer?
Colon cancer is the 2nd most deadly cancer after lung cancer.
Who is at risk?
• Men and women, 50 years or older, who show no symptoms
• Men and women, 40 years or older, who have a family history of colon cancer
If I’m at risk, can I prevent colon cancer?
You can prevent colon cancer by getting tested, or “screened.” Cancer screening saves lives.
Does my insurance plan cover screenings?
Most insurance plans do cover colon cancer screenings. Call your insurance company to be sure.
