Grandmother in her eighties sleeps while her 9 yr. old
grandson plays with his toys.
Paul searches through his toy chest. He finds an action
figure made from plastic. He walks over to a white lamp
taller than him placed aside his bed. He stands on his bed
and flicks on the switch connected to the lamp. He waits
several seconds for the lamp to heat up.
He touches it to measure its heat. He quickly retrieves his
hand. He places the action figure located in his left hand
atop the light bulb located in the lamp. He watches the
figurine slowly melt. A look of amazement strikes his face.
He notices his dog pass his room. It’s a Cockerspaniel.
He quickly chases after his dog, leaving the action figure
behind. The paper-strewn apparel attached to the action
figure begins to catch fire. The plastic along the lamp
begins to melt. It drips onto Paul’s bed. Paul catches up to
his dog. He pets him. The dog pants.
The plastic attached to the lamp continues to melt onto the
bed. The flaming action figure collapses from the lamp onto
the bed. The bed begins to flame up. Paul returns to his
room. His entire mattress is in flames. He desperately runs
to his grandmother’s door.
He bangs on the door several times. He tries the knob. It’s
locked. He calls his grandmother’s name. He waits several
seconds. He tries to bang open the door but is too weak. He
rushes into the kitchen and fills a bucket with water. He
runs to his room. He tosses the water from the bucket over
part of his bed. The fire grows.
Frightened by the reaction, he runs into the living room. He
calls for his dog. He leaves his home through the front door.
His dog follows him. The fire in his bedroom grows more
intense. It spreads from his bed onto the carpet.
Paul walks along the sidewalk. His dog follows. He passes a
woman jogging with her dog. The dog is a Labrador. The woman
smiles at him. Paul continues to walk. While walking he
watches a group of kids a little older t
