City of Gulfport Improves Transparency
One of the fastest growing coastal cities in America sets the pace for transparency in Mississippi.
Gulfport, MS (PRWEB) September 3, 2009 -- For the City of Gulfport, compiling agenda packets for their
council and planning meetings was more than just time consuming. The amount of paper and resources required
to get ready for a meeting was overwhelming. In fact, agenda packets for the council were reaching upwards of
1,000 pages each and taking 3-4 days to compile.
They needed a solution -- a proven, effective solution from a company who understands the unique challenges
that local government faces on a day to day basis. After researching various solutions, it was decided that the
expertise and functionality of MCCi's Legislative Management software would meet the City's needs. Kathy
Johnson, Clerk of Council, explains, "We chose to go with Legistar from MCCi because of its robust
configurability and ease of use. It will allow me to compile our agendas in minutes instead of days, and also give
the public access to all the information that they need."
The implementation of Legistar will enable them to manage their total legislative process electronically. In doing
so, they will streamline the agenda process and increase transparency by providing the public access to
information via the web. The City will also see cost savings by decreasing the amount of paper produced from
printing and copying the agenda.
