CITY OF ISSAQUAH
PUBLIC WORKS ENGINEERING, DEPUTY DIRECTOR
Under the general direction of the PW Engineering Director, the subject position serves as the
“City Engineer;” and the deputy department director. The dual roles require the position to
manage, and participate in the direction of, the department’s staff functions as well as the
assigned engineering divisions that provide for the City’s transportation networks and water,
sewer, solid waste and storm water utilities. Additionally, the position serves as the City’s
subject matter expert on engineering geology and represents the City in regional forums related to
water supply, wastewater treatment and storm water issues and advises the City administration,
elected officials and others on engineering issues important to their work.
As a manager over departmental staff functions, the position develops proposals and implements
approved plans for: 1) long term capital improvement plans and annual capital and operations
budgets; 2) human resource plans and actions; 3) employee and labor relations initiatives and
problem solving solutions; and 4) communications and public relations informational initiatives
and responses related to interdepartmental, intergovernmental, citizen group, council and press
concerns and inquiries.
Reports to: PW Engineering Director
Supervises: Engineering Managers, Senior Resource Conservation Coordinator, Cost Accountant
and various consultants directly. Indirectly, the position is responsible for the work of
approximately two dozen Engineers, Engineering Technicians, Resource Conservation
Specialists, Construction Inspectors and accounting support staff.
Directs and manages staff and assigned divisions subject to broad departmental and City goals
