CITY OF JEANERETTE HOSTS GRAND OPENING FOR
NEW $4.1 MILLION WATER SYSTEM
Congressman Charlie Melancon Joins Jeanerette Officials to Mark the Event
JEANERETTE, December 15, 2006 – Community leaders and water system
supporters were joined today by Congressman Charlie Melancon and USDA Rural
Development State Director Clyde Holloway to celebrate the grand opening of a new
water system for the City of Jeanerette.
The new water system includes two ground storage tanks, three new water wells,
six pressure filters, six softeners, a detention pond, chlorination equipment, and a brine
solution tank. The new system will completely replace the existing water system—which
was originally constructed in the 1950s.
The new water system was funded by $1.8 million in USDA Rural Development
loan funds and $2 million in USDA Rural Development grant funds, as well as $230,000
from the City of Jeanerette.
“USDA Rural Development offers affordable financing to rural communities for
development, improvement, and expansion of rural water systems,” said Clyde C.
Holloway, USDA Rural Development State Director. “We are proud to be a part of this
project.”
