FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK…
I am afraid to say it..but winter might be over. The warm weather has brought the rain. And the
rain and melting snow have thawed the playground into gooey slush pots and rivers of slippery
mud. Fun! Everyday some little one baptizes himself in the muck and needs to call home for fresh
clothes if not a whole new outfit. Welcome spring! We will all survive!
March is Reading Month
The big news at Rodgers, like every March, are all of the March is Reading Month activities that take
place as we encourage our kids to read, read, read. Our theme this month is Books on the Big
Screen and we have all become the stars of the show.
Thank you for encouraging your student to complete their reading log each week. By listening to
your child’s favorite story or asking your older student to describe or explain the story that they are
reading you helps improve your child’s comprehension. You can always read to your kids and share
the book that you are currently reading with them. When it comes to reading, practice makes
perfect. In truth, the more kids read, the better they get and the better they get the more they
want to read. So get out that library card and stack up those books and settle in for some good
family reading. Enjoy the places that reading will take you.
I want to thank the National Junior Honor Society for coming to Rodgers on March 3rd and reading
to our kids. Also thank you to the many parents who have been our “mystery” readers as well as our
own staff who have volunteered to go into classrooms and read.
I am making another plea for you to attend our PTC meetings at Rodgers. We really would love to
have more parent involvement. Even if you can only attend one meeting or help for one hour at one
activity we would love to see you. Please consider becoming a school volunteer! The next PTC
meeting is April 15th at 3:30 pm.
